STRATEGIC INVESTMENTS & PROGRAMMES

At Kainuwa Sustainable Development Foundation (KSDF), we believe sustainable development is achieved through strong institutions, effective systems, and empowered communities. We work with governments, development partners, donors, academic institutions, and communities to strengthen the systems that deliver equitable, high-quality, and sustainable services.

As a trusted technical partner, KSDF supports health systems strengthening, policy implementation, workforce development, digital transformation, governance reforms, evidence generation, and service delivery improvement initiatives across Nigeria. Our current portfolio includes strategic investments implemented in collaboration with federal and state government institutions and supported by leading global partners, including the Gates Foundation.

Across all our investments, we work within existing structures and prioritise local ownership: strengthening the systems government already runs, building local capacity, promoting data-driven decision-making, and enhancing accountability, so that impact is sustained long after any single programme ends.

Our programmes address critical institutional and service-delivery challenges through practical technical assistance, implementation support and capacity development. We work closely with government institutions and partners to improve governance, workforce performance, data use, resource management and access to quality services.

Gombe State Integrated Primary Healthcare Planning and Execution Support

Status: Active

Location: Gombe State, covering 11 local government areas

KSDF provides coordinated technical support to strengthen primary healthcare planning and implementation across Gombe State. The programme focuses on governance, workforce development, digital health, health financing, supply-chain improvement, quality service delivery, gender integration and performance management. Through this support, KSDF helps government institutions turn plans into coordinated action, measurable results and sustainable improvements in the health system. The work also includes technical oversight and quality assurance for the State Health Facility Census.

Strengthening the Health Workforce Unit at the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare

Status: Active

Coverage: National

KSDF provides embedded technical assistance to strengthen national leadership, planning and coordination for Nigeria’s health workforce. The programme supports improvements in workforce data governance, the National Health Workforce Registry, evidence-based workforce planning and coordination between federal and state institutions. It also supports the integration of health labour market evidence into national human resources for health policies and strategies.

Gombe State Health Delivery and Intelligence Unit

Status: Active

Location: Gombe State

The Gombe State Health Delivery and Intelligence Unit is a government-owned platform established to improve the planning, implementation and monitoring of primary healthcare priorities. The unit brings together information on service delivery, workforce, financing, commodities, partner activities and health-facility performance. It helps decision-makers identify bottlenecks, track priority actions, align resources and strengthen accountability across government institutions, local government areas, health facilities and development partners.
